Foolish Thoughts #22: A Networking Option for Independent Consultants

There are many ways that someone starting out, such as myself, can network and generate leads. One way, is to join a small business association. You can join one, such as your local Business Network International (BNI) chapter or an independent business association.

Recently, I joined a small, independent, business networking group, made up of approximately 25 members, called net[work] Bethesda. It is made up of a variety of different business: florist, junk removal, moving and storage, attorneys, accountants, plumbing, insurance agencies, lenders, etc.

Each week, over breakfast, we introduce ourselves and the latest on our business or the industry. In addition, each meeting gives one member the opportunity to tell us about themselves and their business. Finally, we discuss how we were able to help each other out during the previous week.

A few weeks ago, I gave my introductory presentation to the group and it seemed to be well received by all. Looking forward to this new phase/chapter in my life.

By the way, did you use this method to gain business? How did it work for you?
